Steps completed out of order will likely lead to roadblocks in your application, acceptance, and attendance at SKC. These steps have been created in order to provide you with the most trouble free beginning to your future as possible. NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION An essential and mandatory part of your journey to and at SKC is New Student Orientation (Step 9 below). Winter 2020 NSO will be Friday, January 3. Registration is open now. Financial aid is funding that will help you and your family meet college expenses such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, etc. The basic sources of aid are grants, scholarships, employment, and loans. You and your parents (if you are dependent) are considered the primary sources of funding for these costs. Financial aid is intended to fill the gaps where you and your parents might fall short in paying for your education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. We can also help with Off-Campus Housing. FAMILY HOUSING DORMITORIES OFF CAMPUS HOUSING STEP 6: PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT All new and returning full-time and part-time students who have not accumulated 30 quarter credits are required to take a Placement Assessment test that assesses skills in reading, English and mathematics, prior to pre-registration. The Placement Assessment is given prior to pre-registration and on a weekly basis throughout the year. Notice of the Placement Assessment dates will be posted in the SKC quarterly Class Schedule. Placement Assessment must be taken before registration for classes can occur. Placement Assessment Weekly Schedule Monday 11:30 a.m. Wednesday 9:00 a.m. The Placement Assessment will take approximately 3+ hours. The Placement Assessment is timed; therefore, it is important that students arrive on time. Students do not need to sign up ahead of time. Location of the Placement Assessment testing is in the Department of Academic Success building, room 110. If you are unable to take the TABE at SKC, you can take it at one of the following sites; just click; www.opi.mt.gov/Programs/CTAE/ABE.html or www.montana.edu/airo/tribal.html STEP 7: GET YOUR SKC EMAIL ACCOUNT Once your SKC application process is complete, you will receive an acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions. Once you have received your acceptance letter, please call, email or visit the I.T. Helpdesk to get your SKC Student email account set up. Services Department located in the Adeline Mathias Building #68 to receive your student ID/print badge. STEP 10: COMPLETE Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates & AlcoholEDU TRAINING and the Center for Prevention & Wellness wants to work together with you to create a fun, healthy and vibrant campus community. As part of that commitment, we require all students to complete HAVEN and AlcoholEdu -- engaging online, research-based programs that provide a unique learning experience regarding important prevention skills and strategies for our students. Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates (Everfi) Through Everfi you will learn about healthy relationships, the importance of consent and being a good communicator, and the many ways you can help create the safe, positive campus. This platform addresses the Title IX requirements as set by federal standards. AlcoholEdu This online experience includes alcohol related content featuring videos and virtual activities. Whether or not you drink, AlcoholEdu empowers students to make well-informed decisions and provides some simple strategies to help keep you and your friends safe. Federal guidelines require students to participate in alcohol education at least once while attending a higher education institution.
